Old Richians 58 - 5 Longlevens

Old Richians had started their county cup campaign with a home match against local rivals Longlevens.

This was the first game in 7 weeks for the boys, so things started off a little rusty. Prop Jack Murdoch opened the scoring for Richians, which was quickly matched by Levens through a mistake in Richians defence, however from then on Richians pulled themselves together and showed their superiority.

There was excellent passing throughout the team, with a link between Toby Freeman, Jack Lewis and Ryan Bayliss seeing the ball land with Martin Sladen who charged over for the first of his brace of tries. A fantastic rolling maul, saw Richians make 15 metres before, Carlo Celucci gained the ball and quickly passed it out to Toby Freeman to score his first try of a hat trick , first tries for the club followed from Tom Wheeler and John Hunter, and Prop Harry Barr again forcing his way over for a score, with Ryan Bayliss running down the wing to score. Freeman converted two tries, and Martin Sladen managed to get the ball between the posts from a brilliant touchline drop kick, Jake Melocia completed the conversions.

Despite being behind for the whole game, Levens didn’t give up, and put in 100% effort to the end. A brilliant local derby game.

Try scorers Toby Freeman (3), Martin Sladen (2), Jack Murdoch, Ryan Bayliss, Tom Wheeler, John Hunter, Harry Barr. Conversions, Toby Freeman (2) Martin Sladen, Jake Melocia
